The Evangelical Christian Alliance of Nepal (ECAN) has published a press release drawing serious attention of the administration and the faith community to the constant harassment and threats from certain extortionists and hate-mongers who allegedly are related to some parties who claim to work for the same afflicted minority community.

In a statement released today, the ECAN General Secretary has claimed that “Pasang Tamang (alias) Daniel, who calls himself the head of the labor organization of Radical Change Messiah Party Nepal, citing the responsibility for the peace and security of Nepal, has continuously threatened to kill Pastor Simon Peter over the phone, and Saroj Pakhrin, an activist of the National Liberation Movement of Nepal, has planned attacks and negative comments on the officials of this network and organization.”

Subject: Serious Call for Attention!

The Evangelical Christian Alliance of Nepal, the first registered Christian organization in the history of Nepali Christianity, is a central network of evangelical faith that unites churches as a voice of unity for the Christian concern, religious freedom, human rights and social justice of the minority Nepali Christian community.

For the past few days, the founding president of the Evangelical Christian Alliance of Nepal and the head of the International Coordination Department has been threatened by Pasang Tamang (alias) Daniel, who calls himself the head of the labor organization of Radical Change Messiah Party Nepal, citing responsibility for the peace and security of Nepal, has continuously threatened to kill him over the phone. Also, Saroj Pakhrin, an activist of the National Liberation Movement of Nepal, has planned attacks and negative comments on the officials of this network and organization. Serious attention has been drawn to our organization about the bad news. Expressing our condemnation for the misleading propaganda, we request the entire Nepali Christian community not to trust such misleading propaganda.

In a program organized by the Christian Reporters Club in conjunction with Jayamsih.com on Sunday 24th Baisakh, the founder of this organization and the Head of the International Coordination Department, Rev. Pastor Simon Peter was invited as a speaker. We also want to make it clear that he did not make any offensive statements towards any religious community, Nepali church (congregation) and party in his address. But we are very worried about the attack on this organization and the officials of the organization with the intention of extorting donations in a prejudicial manner and in a well-planned manner. Extremist groups using abusive language aimed at Christians in various social networks are active in this way. It is clear that they have the intention of creating conflict between peace, tolerance and co-existing religious communities by spreading hate speech.
In this way, the international image that the Nepalese nation has gained so far in favor of human rights will also suffer due to the fear, threats and intimidation of the religious leaders of the Nepali Christian community, requesting the Government of Nepal to be serious about this immediately, and the terrorist gangs that do such acts are not any help to any Christian community. This is a dangerous disease like cancer. We suggest the Government of Nepal and diplomatic missions to include such gangs in the  list of terrorist entities in the international world, to immediately control all activities that are intended to spread discord between religious communities and prosecute individuals or groups involved in such activities in accordance with the law. We also request the Government of Nepal and related agencies to create an environment for exercising religious freedom in a safe and secure manner for the Christian community.
