November 26-

As we celebrate 16 days of “ Activism against Gender-Based Violence” from 25 November to 10 December, under the 2020 global theme: “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”, it is high time the world community seriously addresses the issue once and for all!

For merely observing the days as a formality to save face and to fulfil yet another annual duty avails naught to humanity. Each individual, family, society, nation and the global bodies need to genuinely commit themselves to fighting against all forms of discrimination.

UN Secretary-General’s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic when most of us are locked down in our own places, any violence and abuse on women and minors is likely to go unreported, unnoticed and unopposed. Assessing this situation, the UN Secretary-General’s report, “Shared Responsibility, Global Solidarity: Responding to the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19” has rightly observed: “Accompanying the crisis has been a spike in domestic violence reporting, at exactly the time that services, including rule of law, health and shelters, are being diverted to address the pandemic.”

One for all, and all for one, following the Golden Rule of treating others the way you want yourself be treated, we can put an end to gender-based violence against women!
