March 20-

In yet another dramatic turn of events in the already seriously undermined Social Unity Party (SUP) leadership, some leading Central Executive Committee officials and Province Committees have declared party defection en masse.

In a facebook post published the party’s outgoing-  now defected – General Secretary Bidur Adhikari, some eleven CEC officials, plus Province 1 EC team, and Madesh Province team have finally severed their allegiance to the party, after waiting for a solution, a workable exit.

“We waited and asked for and suggested some solutions in various ways, but the party chair, and some deputy chairs did not respond any positively. Therefore, it was our compulsion for the good of all stakeholdrers.”

“Many have reached out to me personally, and shown their desire to defect,” the GS said. “It is our desire for all parties and sides to come together; we are not here to eliminate anybody or party, but to merge all together,” he further clarified.

“We waited and asked for and suggested some solutions in various ways, but the party chair, and some deputy chairs did not respond any positively. Therefore, it was our compulsion for the good of all stakeholders,” said the Province 1 Chair Indra B. Rai.

Now it is to see how the remaining, already cornered SUP establishment will respond or move ahead, given the fact that it has now lost whatever slim base it might have had, with the departure of the local faith leaders and some political figures.

But it may opne a totally new door for faith-led political movement, hopefully.

Consequently, there is a report of some six parties and groups coming together for dialogue and potentially collaboration and even unity, a secret source confided on the condition of anonymity.

The new or latest defecting group also has proposed a new party by the name of republican Party Nepal, the same source claimed.
