May 18-

Israelis observe 72 years since the signing of their Declaration of Independence; This also marks two years since the Trump administration recognized Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel.

It was 72 years ago that the Jewish State was reborn following on the heels of World War II, as they declared their independence in Tel Aviv on the historic day of May 14, 1948. Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion made it official as he read from the notes he had while waiting for the declarative document to be completed.

Israelis celebrated Independence Day (Yom Ha’Atzmaut) on April 29th, 2020. This is because they celebrate according to the Jewish calendar, which marks Yom Ha’Atzmaut on the 5th of Iyar. On the Gregorian calendar, it was the 14th of May, 1948.

The rebirth of the nation of Israel was something long in the making since the diaspora of the Jewish people that began in 70 A.D. at the hand of the Romans. For nearly the last two thousand years, believers of Bible prophecy have anticipated the fulfilment of God’s Word regarding this miracle called Israel.

Isaiah 66:7-9
“Before she was in labor, she gave birth;
Before her pain came,
She delivered a male child.
Who has heard such a thing?
Who has seen such things?
Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day?
Or shall a nation be born at once?
For as soon as Zion was in labor,
She gave birth to her children.
Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?” says the Lord.
“Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?” says your God.

Perhaps some of the most significant events that led up to the rebirth of the nation began with the Balfour Declaration in 1917 when it was recognized that there needed to be a home for the Jewish people. Next in line was the San Remo conference of 1920, which took the contents of the Balfour Declaration and formed them into an international treaty. This was followed by the Mandate of the League of Nations in 1922, wherein a declaration was made to provide a home for the Jewish people in their biblical, ancestral homeland.

On November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly voted on Resolution 181, which would take the existing British Mandate over “Palestine” and declare two states; one Arab, and the other Jewish – the state of Israel.

As Ben-Gurion read from the notes he had, perhaps one of the most important statements in the middle of the declaration was revealed:

ACCORDINGLY WE, MEMBERS OF THE PEOPLE’S COUNCIL, REPRESENTATIVES OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF ERETZ-ISRAEL AND OF THE ZIONIST MOVEMENT, ARE HERE ASSEMBLED ON THE DAY OF THE TERMINATION OF THE BRITISH MANDATE OVER ERETZ-ISRAEL AND, BY VIRTUE OF OUR NATURAL AND HISTORIC RIGHT AND ON THE STRENGTH OF THE RESOLUTION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY, HEREBY DECLARE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A JEWISH STATE IN ERETZ-ISRAEL, TO BE KNOWN AS THE STATE OF ISRAEL.

That same night, US President Harry S. Truman formally recognized the sovereignty of the state of Israel.

70 years later, on December 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump would officially recognize Jerusalem as the biblical, historical, undivided capital of Israel. He would act on this by moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem; something several presidents promised to do and failed to execute.

Not only has God restored the Jewish people to the land He’s sovereignly given them, but they’re flourishing in the land just as He promised!

Additionally, Israel is now set to annex the Jordan Valley, areas north of the Dead Sea, and Judea & Samaria (The West Bank) in the coming weeks. This will mean that they’ll exercise sovereignty over land that has been out of their control for nearly 2,000 years.
