National Interfaith Roundtable Conference to be held-

In a press meet and press release program organized at Reporters Club, the organizing committee  National Interfaith Roundtable Conference – 2082 clarified why the conference was needed. It was for the implementation of secularism with full religious freedom.

Dear Journalists and Media Friends,
In a situation where the current constitution of Nepal defines the country as a secular nation and fails to ensure the right of every citizen to adopt, observe, practice and protect religion according to their own beliefs, it is natural to be concerned and interested in this step of the state, especially since it has become known that the current coalition government will amend the provisions related to secularism and religious freedom.
Informing that the religious community is unanimous in its opinion that the necessary provisions should be amended to establish all possibilities for national interest, justice, good governance and all-round development, in this context, we inform you that the Interfaith National Roundtable Conference – 2082 will be organized in Kathmandu on Bhadra 23, 24, 25, 2082 BS. This event will be organized in collaboration with inter-religious networks, civil society organizations, human rights activists, and constitutional law experts.

The main objective of the conference is to create an environment of mutual dialogue, trust, and cooperation among the various religions and sects of the country and to present common views and suggestions on serious issues such as constitutional amendment. The conference will create a strong foundation for in-depth debate on religious freedom, the essence of secularism enshrined in the constitution, and the role of religion and religious communities in peace and reconciliation. Representatives of Hindu, Buddhist, Islamic, Kirat, Christian, Bahai, Jain, Bon, Sikh, Pranami, Masto, Kabir and other minority religious communities, human rights activists, lawyers, organizations involved in peace-building, youth and women leaders, the National Human Rights Commission, and representatives of the Parliament will also participate in this conference. After the conference, the “Kathmandu Interreligious Declaration-2082” approved by all participants will be issued, and the conclusions and recommendations of the conference will be submitted to the government, Parliament, the National Human Rights Commission, and relevant stakeholders.
In a country like Nepal, which is based on diverse religious and cultural structures, social harmony, tolerance and protection of religious freedom are the foundations of lasting peace. The organizers believe that this conference will be a historic opportunity to spread this message at all levels.
