Orientation Program on LGBTQIA++ Held in Pokhara by the PCS

Pokhara  Christian Society organized a one day “Orientation Program on LGBTQIA++ and Biblical Response” on August 26, where Civic Concern Nepal was requested to facilitate. Entire CCN team spoke on the program, which was the very first time team visit outside the capital city, reflecting on the gravity of the issue across wider community.

After a hearty welcome to the team by the local community, the CCN team was given the whole day to teach. Chair Dr Sundar Thapa introduced the issue and provided an overall  threat posed by this radical and godless ideology, with demonstration and challenging questions. He exhorted the leaders to face the destructive agenda head in, or else the ekklesia will get penalized legally when the law of the land becomes pro-lgbt. He set the mood and tone of the program, which became a great help to the subsequent presentations.

Then ED Dr Jomesh Wod brought the biblical perspective, clarifying how same sex and transgenderism is against the revealed will and plan of God concerning humanity, how it will bring curse and punishment on the whole land as in the case of Sodom. Gomorrah and their neighboring cities.

Advocate Prakash Nepali  then provided legal and constitutional provisions which were misinterpreted and read between the lines, though at a place or two the wording of “persons” is used instead of husband and wife, which can be exploited for including same sex marriage. He also touched upon international practices, and how in comparison Nepal bandwagoned unnecessarily.

Secretary Bidur presented on “The State of the Nations” ,and how the world is divided between pro-family/life and pro-lgbt/abortion blocs, and how major intl. organizations like the UN, EU, World Bank etc. are pushing the trans agenda in the name of human rights and gender equality, though the majority world and the majority of he world powers are still against same sex marriage. He also briefly presented CCN activities till date.

Finally, Treasurer Ptr. Purna summarized the presentation and led the leaders into group discussion on two questions: 1) What they will do in their own congregation to address the issue, and 2) What Pokhara C. S. will do as a community to address the same. Six groups presented their responses, which can broadly be summarized as: Will sensitized their individual congregations on the issues, counsel any one who is confused about their gender identity or who is drawn into same sex relationship or transgenderism; and will equip the community to respond to the serious agenda.

All emphasized the need for organizing further in-depth programs on these issues. Many fresh perspectives and angles were explored, and the team was invited to other districts as well.

It was a fruitful program overall, and can serve as a pilot project for CCN. We as a team believe this program demonstrated what CCN has been doing in this field, and the team got solid grounding and confidence and expertise to teach too, CCN Secretary Adhikari said.
