IPFN expresses concerns over attacks on sites of worship;

Calls on all concerned to preserve and promote religious tolerance and harmony

Lalitpur, September 3-

Issuing a press release today, the Interfaith Peace Federation- Nepal has expressed serious concern over the recent attacks on religious places and devotees by some extremist groups and individuals in the country.

The press release jointly signed by President Ram Bhakta Kurumbang and General Secretary Dr. Mahendra Bhattarai notes: “On Saturday 31 August 2024, Hindu extremist groups and some local groups attacked Yaduwa Village of Dhanusha District, Shaheed Municipality, Parasi District, Palhindan Rural Municipality and the same group attacked a local church in Siraha District on Saturday 15th of June 2024. The news of the vandalism of the church and assaults on the local church members while the Christians were worshiping collectively draws the serious attention of the Inter-Religious Peace Federation to the Government of Nepal.

All of us who believe in religious peace have gathered on one platform and have been working for a long time, committed to establishing and promoting peace in the nation by maintaining religious tolerance and harmony in the society.”

The statement notes that Nepal is a multi-lingual, multi-religious nation, therefore it is incumbent upon all protect and promote tolerance and harmony in all aspects.
